Who is Susanna Colbert?
Hey there!
Before I get too far into blogging gorgeous love stories and life's moments, I thought I'd give you the down low on who I am.
Fast Facts:
- I am a North Carolinian born and raised and went to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (do you see that Carolina blue sky to the left?!).
- I always have a water bottle with me...which means I'm also in the bathroom a lot.
- I am a huge advocate for the Oxford comma. It pains me when it's not used. Watch this: I saw a dog, a seashell and the ocean. What is "a seashell and the ocean"? Is it a new band rivaling Florence and the Machine or The Head and The Heart?
- Navy is my favorite color.
- I have a pit/vizsla mix named Gracie who has made me the craziest dog mom.
Want to know a little more?
I began taking pictures at a young age. I'd always take my dad's DSLR camera and capture what I called, "artsy pictures". Basically the close up shots of flowers - you know what I'm talking about. Then I went through the whole Picnik editing phase so for about a year my pictures included song lyrics or quotes I googled based on the image. For high school graduation I was given a DSLR by my amazing parents and then it sat in the case for a good 3 years, only making an appearance at Christmas or birthdays. Come May 2016, a friend from UNC, the lovely Siobhan of Siobhan Lorraine Photography, put out a call for an assistant. I had always been interested in photography and knew something was calling me to pursue my passion so I reached out to her. I got the gig and she and I have now spent many Saturdays running around capturing details, crying behind our cameras, and dancing to the Wobble, the Cha-Cha Slide, and Yeah! by Usher. I can't thank her enough for being an incredible mentor and friend and helping me go for my dreams.
I am a go-getter who is quickly learning that big city life isn't my thing...glad I found out before I went for my childhood dream and moved to Boston. It's not that I don't like all the things to do but I'd rather have a more intimate town where I can run into a friend at Target and catch up or be able to take Gracie on a walk in my comfy clothes without feeling like a slob.
I graduated with a degree in Communication Studies and a minor in music. I started as a voice major and after a year, I quickly learned that I don't like when people critique my singing. Put me up next to Adele and I'll show you who's boss. Adele. Adele is the boss. She will win, hands down. Some of the courses I took in communications included gender communication (unfortunately not how to talk to different genders) and pop culture and communications. Y'all, we discussed everything from the blue/black dress to Kim Kardashian and the American Dream to YouTube stars. It was awesome.
I was (am?) a group fitness instructor and taught everything except the calm classes like yoga, pilates, and barre. I taught for two and a half years and had some of my best memories teaching. From watching participants become more confident over the course of a semester to watching all the "gym bros" fail at my ab class, it was so fun. I made lifelong friends and one of them is Siobhan, the one who helped me start doing professional photography.
If you made it this far, you deserve a gold star! Thanks for learning a little more about me and be on the lookout for more blog posts as wedding season has kicked off!
